High Standard Slide Racker
I have this nice old HS Trophy that I used to shoot back in the 80's. It has a custom Douglas barrel and shoots well. I use a Marvel now and my daughter likes to shoot the HS. With the over-the-slide optics rail it is difficult for her to rack the slide. I made this slide racker from scratch. It is milled into the slide and silver soldered in place. Earlier attempts using screws failed. There just isn't enough meat in the slide for a screw to hold up.
I know the purists among us will recoil at the idea of doing this to a fine old HS. But with the exception of a couple of high end shotguns, my guns are shooters and not collector items or safe queens. But I understand the reaction.
Regards,

I modify lots of my guns. The one exception is an old 5 screw S&W. I say make the gun work for you unless you are purely a collector.

Re: High Standard Slide Racker
Did something similar for my wife's H-S trophy
my solution was a 3/4" 6x40 shoulder screw placed in the upper left front portion of the slide.. used a roll pin as a sleeve for it so you had more to grab.
I left the original sight bridge and sights on..
works fine for her.

That's nice. I have a old 103 that runs a Victor barrel with the sight rail on it. Never a problem normal shooting, but its a PITA dry firing!

Use a very small (padded) C-clamp for dry firing.

Oh that's a idea!!!
All that slide racking normally leads to me slicing my hand on the sight rail!!

Skate board tape might give you enough extra traction without doing any drilling or tapping.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I don't know of a machine shop that'd take minor work from a walk in customer.
Until I work out a solution skate tape will have o do.
Arthritis isn't lots of fun. Wish I could have inherited a bunch of downtown real estate from my parents instead two different types of arthritis.
