Need S&W Revolver Springs
Alright, I have a Smith and Wesson Model 14-3 and I never gave the trigger poundage a thought because I was gonna shoot it double action during the sustained fire portion. I had my trigger pull gauge handy and checked it. Just nearly 2 pounds! I had a 14 pound trigger rebound spring in it and switched to a 15 pound. Nearly 2.5 pounds so not good enough. 16 pounds and it's 2.5 on the dot! But I fear with a NRA weight test it may not pass. Too close to the edge to be a passing weight.
Problem is... WHERE CAN I FIND A HEAVIER SPRING?

Thanks but unless I missed it they do not have an 18 pound spring option. That's what I'm looking for. All the springs I have are from them and are reduced power. I think I need a factory weight spring (18 pounds).

I think you need to try another trigger pull gage...
I say that having checked a 14-2, 14-7, 10-6 PPC gun.
All have SA triggers 2#15oz to 3# 1oz.

Would you happen to know if you are using a stock 18 pound trigger rebound spring in those guns or are you using reduced poundage springs?

When was the last time you checked that instrument for accuracy? I have a 2.5 and a 5lb barbell weight that I took to the local grocery store and the meat market scale is digital to the .1 of a oz and checked by the state. I also have a 1.5 pound fishinf weight I had checked. They didn't weigh what they were marked but they are now marked to a tenth of a ounce. I can now check my scales and my new Lymans digital id off and reads 1oz heavy at 2lbs. I worked in a Navy cal lab for 12 years. I had the same problem you have I was just to light by a ounce on my mark III with the VQ trigger assy. Don

Do you have a reduced power mainspring/power rib in the revolver? I would put the regular back in before trying for extra power rebound spring.

To a point, the mainspring will not contribute to the SA pull.
You can back it out to barely break the sear and still pull 3#.

I'm using stock mainspring and 16 pound trigger rebound spring. I have an RCBS spring loaded trigger pull gauge.

In a pinch I have weighed out bullet heads and placed them in a zip lok baggie using a bent wire coat hanger to weigh my triggers.
If you can lift it off the table you are good.
Never trusted those pull type fish scales.

I made a set of weights. I made another set for someone that asked for it then totally forgot who asked. Oh well. Anyhow these are pretty easy to make.

Just came in from the shop looking through my" K" frame drawer.Tim:H11 wrote:Trigger scale aside - thank you by the way - where can I find an 18 pound spring?
Normally if I sell a revolver I will put the factory spring back in.
Just so happens I have exactly one used factory 18# J,K,L,N revolver rebound spring.
It is in a Wolff 13# re stapled package with my hand written "factory 18#" on it.
I have no need for it cause all of my revolvers that I have replaced the rebound spring in with reduced power have always lifted 2.5#
It is my minimum for carry/defense and of course NRA rules.
If you want it, PM me your shipping address.
I will get it out this week sometime.
