Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
So the matches for today are cancelled, which means I didn't get my chance to shoot preliminary, DR and Harry Reeves Does anyone know if they will be rescheduled for later this week or just cancelled?
Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
As of a half hour ago they didn't know. I've heard groups of people talking about just doing it in the next day or 2, running relays all day and squading when you show up. but then there's always somebody chiming in about "shooting in similar conditions" and having to can first relays scores because they shot on a different day etc. My guess is that they'll just let it go because they don't want to deal with the inevitable complaining and conflict if they try to wing it and run the match.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
I'm curious too, I only signed up for DR because I couldn't change my vacation days AGAIN but I live near Cleveland. I could possibly make it back for a half day. As a side note the targets that I had in my cart were mush and all runny after being in the rain for 15 minutes. I hope those are an experiment....javaduke wrote:So the matches for today are cancelled, which means I didn't get my chance to shoot preliminary, DR and Harry Reeves Does anyone know if they will be rescheduled for later this week or just cancelled?

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
I feel lucky. At least I got to shoot some today. I was on Range 2 with lots of problems.
The targets are all brand new. When I first saw them I thought wow! they look great! They are different, the image of a target is printed on cardboard. I guess they think it's cheaper or easier to have single use targets and not worry about gluing on new faces. Unfortunately, as mentioned, the targets are just plain single layer cardboard so as soon as they got wet they turned to mush. There wasn't much wind, but it was enough to blow out targets. Several times they had to stop the line to send people down range to replace targets that were sagging or had been blown out. That was frustrating, but tolerable. Then they did a test turn to see if any more targets would fall out and the low end didn't turn so there was a further delay to fix the target system. They replaced the motor, but then we are ready to roll lets go on to centerfire. By this time it was around 10:00
Slow fire was fine, well, except for my scores, but that's another story. We move to the short line, score and change and Timed Fire seemed fine. We shoot both strings, and a shooter near me asks aloud "did that seem short to anyone?". Soon they announce anyone who want's a refire step forward everyone else step back. I think I've got a 96 with 4 nines. Not my best, but I'll take it. Then they announce everyone will refire. I assume since the first string was also probably short we all have to reshoot, but I still am not sure it was the right ruling. Anyway... Down we go to replace our targets, I actually had a 94 with a close 8 and a scratch 9 that looked like one hole from the firing line. We get back to the line, load start the commands and you can hear the radio in the background saying "Cease Fire! Cease Fire!". There was lightning in the area. We kept getting lightning and thunder periodically for the next few hours.
Supposedly they cancelled everything around 1:30, but there was no notice posted in the results area or on the bulletin boards and I never heard a loudspeaker driving around.
I am really disappointed in the lack of information. In this day and age there should be a notification system set up. Many businesses, communities and nearly every school in the country has a system to send emails and texts. Come on NRA, get into the 21st century. At least post a notice on the board!

And we could have easily fired the revolver matches in the late afternoon.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Indeed. The whole event is turning into a fustercluck. The NRA can propose spending a fortune on electronic targets but can't figure out a way to communicate with shooters when there is information that needs disseminating. Hey NRA - even old farts like me have smartphones. There's at least half a dozen easy and inexpensive ways to push this sort of data out. I know you've cracked email - you send me interminable spam trying to scare me into funding your lavish political slush fund.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Sounds like the same range alibi cluster that happened last year. Officials "ruled" on the slow turning targets at least three times with long delays in between.
Is it time for a new organization to step up and organize, run and rule on "precision pistol?"

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Look at USA Shooting...be careful what you wish for. If anything, it sounds like a new venue is needed. It sounds like folks are stuck on Perry only for sentimental reasons. Otherwise, it sounds like a really crappy place to shoot. Wasn't there supposed to be a new large range opening near Columbus, OH?AllAces wrote:Sounds like the same range alibi cluster that happened last year. HM and MA shoot on 3rd relay on day two. It's not unusual to see winning scores in the 870s.
Actually, I'd say that winning scores in the 880s or higher are unusual for CF.
