Can someone elaborate on what caused this ?Blsi2600 wrote:Attendance at 490. Down from 690 +/- last year. Thanks CMP.
The NRA Highpower championships are down to 167 competitors with the move to Camp Atterbury. The Matches are being held on one 50 point range with 4 relays.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
I understand the 3rd relay problem, but the wind must have been bruising. There were only 4-5 scores in the 870's and Hemphill, who I believe won it all last year, was in the 850's if I read it correctly. Tough day.

Schedule, and all the BS leading up to it, both CMP & NRA were at fault.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
I think with attendance low last year and this year. Many experts like myself were on the HM/MA relay. 1-3-2 somehow I even ended up on range 400 from 200 last year. Range 3 was not in use and the expert class was 160+ strongjohn bickar wrote:Dr.Don wrote:Centerfire scores look quite low. Must have been tough weather or something...........
HM and MA shoot on 3rd relay on day two. It's not unusual to see winning scores in the 870s.
Actually, I'd say that winning scores in the 880s or higher are unusual for CF.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Percentage wise, looks like CMP was down about 30 to 35 percent and NRA about 29 percent.
People complained in the past about taking too much time when the matches were continuous, people complain when they are split, people complain about changes, people complain when things don't chance.
But, a lot of shooters, volunteers and vendors attended, competed and supported the matches. Those that did not will never get another chance to attend the 2017 matches and another year will pass before another opportunity will present itself to compete in the national matches.
Congratulations to all the winners and competitors that attended. My thanks to the staff, volunteers and vendors that attended and supported the matches this year.
Respectfully and Thankfully Yours,
Cecil Rhodes

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
These were my first NRA National Pistol Matches but my 3rd CMP pistol matches. What a grand experience each was. Together they will contribute to many positive memories!
At Camp Perry I met many fellow shooters, shared many stories, conducted hands on product research on commercial row, endured the changing weather, i.e. The wind blew and the crap flew, and on the firing line we stood, and learned much about myself as I attempted to execute perfect shots as my sights were blown from left to right.
I also spent almost too much money on commercial row buying another year's worth of shooting supplies. It's an investment in my sanity!
All in all an outstanding experience that I will repeat next year. In fact I liked it so much that next weekend will find me strapped in behind an old 6.5-284 for the NRA Long Range Championship at Camp Atterbury. What the heck it's only been 30 years since I shot a long range match...

Was there anything worth reporting from the competitors meeting with the NRA?

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
We shall see if big changes are coming. Fixing the relationship and bringing renewed vigor to the sport was encouraged. Many recommendations are brought forward by shooters. Like acknowledging juniors at the nationals, awards for all classes, better online reporting and match lookups. A survey is going out to camp perry shooters this year.budgetbob wrote:Was there anything worth reporting from the competitors meeting with the NRA?
For rules the DR is for lead only as of now though the rules don't say it. A magazine safety like the 41 and rugers are not safeties they are mag disconnectors. If you have a Hammerli 208 with a safety and replace the slide with a non safety your good as well.
Cole took the blame for the current state of things even though he just started the job. Promises were made for a brighter future. Only time will tell if it works out. Talk is cheap but most shooters are getting behind him and not in front
That CMP DRAFT released is being coordinated and we shall see when it comes final
Oh yeah.....production class is dead open and metallic I believe no national records for metallic just open which

I always say that the best part about pistol week at Camp Perry is being around a few hundred people who don't think it's crazy to spend thousands of dollars and thousands of hours trying to punch holes in a little group.MarkOue wrote:These were my first NRA National Pistol Matches but my 3rd CMP pistol matches.

New Competitions Director Cole said the right things at the awards ceremony. He acknowledged the difficulty with scheduling over the last year, said he has had 2 meetings with the CMP that were very positive and pledged to work hard to make the future better and smoother with more awards. I wish nothing but the best for all the leaders of the NRA and CMP.
Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Maybe the Nationals should be moved to NRA Whittington Center in New Mexico. Weather seems to be better there. Just sayin'.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
I like Perry for the weather. It is straight craptastic weather BUT it is the great equalizer of shooting so i very much enjoy it. At my current level i can't beat some of the shooters i have at Perry.
My biggest beef is that when i show up for the premier event of the year the National championships..you could even say the world championships. I expect a better facility and more recognition for those who come out to play at a great expense. A city or town that supports us coming out would be great as well...I don't get that vibe from Port Clinton....heck some people i've talked to don't even know what we are there for.
I want cement pads and sturdy benches but uncovered fire points, so the wind and rain can whip around.

CMP attendance took a brutal beating if you look closely. For the President's Hundred match, based on the results postings, last year there were 144 Military (Active, Reserve and National Guard, but NOT retired) shooters and 393 non-Military shooters, for a total of 537. This year, there were 143 Military shooters and 195 non-Military shooters, for a total of 338.
Overall, participation in the P100 was down 37%, but as you can see, the Military was there in almost exactly the same numbers (143 vs 144).
What was missing this year was non-Military support, which was DOWN 50%.
I leave it to others to draw their own conclusions regarding this year's CIVILIAN Marksmanship Program Camp Perry program.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
My first time at Perry was 1982 and went every year since. The NRA had former top pistol shooters running the match.Things were better back then. If bad weather caused a delay they would wait to see if it got better, if necessary teams were canceled so the match could be completed. If the weather continued to stop shooting then the following day teams were canceled and the lunch break canceled and an 1800 shot. Card board targets were waxed even if rained on they kept their shape, shot ones in the rain were reused and another target glued on.
Had a good time, Adam came is second again, won the .45 match with a 885. Won Canton with a 2657. My other son won the .22 only match 2580. Interesting note Shue scored Adam.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
All the top shooters are grouped together on the same line, so they all know how they are shooting. Others who are shooting really well will be squadded on the same range on the upper and lower targets. I suppose this is done so all the likely winners shoot under the same range and weather conditions and so no one gets a really generous scorer.

better online reporting and match lookups. A survey is going out to camp perry shooters this year.
Any idea how to find aggregate score for 22,cf,45 ? And then a comparison within the same level of shooter ie: master, sharpshooter, marksman etc ?
They posted this day one on the blue boards and then nothing for the next two days

The aggregate scores are in the "100" section. All broke down by class and if you scroll down to the bottom they have one list of everyone.

Re: CAMP PERRY 2017
Gentlemen,
I complement both the NRA and CMP for their very fast posting of scores online. For all but the SNAFU with the first day Harry Reeves and Distinguished Revolver matches, the scores were posted within an hour of completion of the matches.
If you have ever worked managing most any kind of scores you should appreciate how hard that was to do accurately and efficiently.
Mark
