Remington 148 HBWC
Called the ammo plant in AR... was told they won't be selling the projectile, just the loaded ammo.

Greetings,
Interesting...

Looks like MidwayUSA has more "pull" than us little people.
Cheers,
Dave

I'll use up my Precision Delta before the Remingtons I have left. Based on the amount I'm shooting any of my 38 Specials I have a lifetime supply of the PD's!Chris Miceli wrote:Called the ammo plant in AR... was told they won't be selling the projectile, just the loaded ammo.

Greetings,
I just clicked on the link above for MidwayUSA.
Select 2000 and they are "out of stock, backorder OK".
Hopefully Remington did not weasel out of MidwayUSA's order.
I have some prepaid waiting for arrival.
Cheers,
Dave

Received a reply today from Remington.
They have stopped production of the 148gr LHBWC and the match ammo that they loaded them in.

That's too bad about this ammo not being run anymore. When people at the range try my revolver shooting this type of ammo they are amazed at the nice clean holes and how nicely it shoots.

Remington has slowly been getting out of the components business for years.
Clay targets, STS lead shot, STS primers are hard to find, was now bullets.

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
Greetings,
Sad news on the Remington HBWC bullets.
Same thing happened with H&N 32 bullets. The German laws for export make them essentially impossible to import into Canada or the USA.
So, I made a swaging die set to duplicate the H&N bullet. Thus far, it works well.
I have also machined a swaging die set that copies the Remington HBWC profile. Now, I just need to find time to cast up some slugs for swaging. Too many other projects....
Cheers,
Dave

Just happened to find a 2017 Remington Full Line Catalog and 148gr HBWC loaded ammo is not listed at all. Closest is 158gr RN.

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
It will be interesting to see if Remington keeps these bullets available, we seem to be hearing all kinds of answers about them. I think if the demand is there Remington is likely to make them.

It's possible MUSA made a deal with Remington that if they get X# of back orders they would be allowed to place a special order with Remington. Hope so anyway.

I think I was one of the last to get a backorder accepted. I tried again later and it would not accept another order for any amount.
But.....my original order shipped today Yaaay !

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
Greetings,
MidwayUSA has a lot of buying power.
Not long ago, they brought back a "Limited Run" of Speer 98 HBWC for us 32 fans.
The price was set for quick sale and return on investment.
MidwayUSA currently lists the 98 HBWC as "discontinued".
Anyway, my Reminton HBWC are now on the UPS truck.
Cheers,
Dave

That would have happened entirely too quickly for Remington to tool up, deliver some future contract, and then hope more demand was in the future. This isn't how the manufacturing business generally works (or, at least, most successful ones). MUSA could have forecasted some amount of demand from their own internal search results- totally possible on that count- and put in enough of an order to make it happen.
It's much more likely that Big Green, due to the soft firearms/ammo market as a result of the election, has to make good on their futures contracts for lead deliveries and is searching for any place to make that lead into something they can sell. I should have asked what the rest of the backlog contained- but I'd be very surprised if we didn't see more "ancient artifacts" coming up- from all the manufacturers (although, WW is no longer in the brass business directly, so that part of their "business" might be a margin/cash flow thing for them).

Chase, your making a big assumption that Remington has no small batch capability, which many manufacturers have for their testing, emergency or (service) orders, etc.. Were talking volumes where Rem. would not be committing to additional raw material orders or tie up major production capacity. MUSA would be taking all the risk because they would have to assume all back orders are still wanted, but they would be committing to Rem. If it took too long to reach the point where MUSA would have enough BO's to place an order with Rem., they could just cancel all the BO's and be done with it, or take the risk that their order to Rem. would eventually sell. The question is, at what price point.
100 orders of 2,000 148gr bullets ea = just over 4K lb of lead, that's only about 4 pallets, not enough to burn off any lead inventory.

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
My brain and typing where not connected, I was trying to say while we might think a certain amount of sales of this product is a lot Remington's idea of a high enough demand is most likely different.

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
Midway has had this item on back order over 2 years ago I order then and received them several months later.
Chase, While I am retired now I have over 35 years running a purchasing department spending $billions of dollars ($400 million+ annually) and I can tell you good suppliers will bend over backwards to satisfy big buyers even if it doesn't make economic sense.

Re: Remington 148 HBWC
I placed a back order for 2000 on August 18th. It was originally supposed to ship at the end of August. Received an email last week that they now expect to have them in stock on November 26th. I'm guessing that in stock means for existing back orders, not new orders. Currently they are not accepting back orders.
Bruce
Got word on October 5th that my order had shipped........Yea! Midway is still not accepting backorders.
