Aquila 22lr SV Inexpensive Price
I have not used this ammo but I have used Super extra 1080FPS ammo and find when I sort them by rim thickness they yield exceptional groups. The quality today is better then it was a few years ago when one back would yield 100 match rounds. The last brick I sorted yielded about 300 match rounds.
While the description says plated they are lead according to the FAQ and the box picture. The velocity says 1130 FPS but that may be a benefit for auto pistol as I think Aquila runs a little soft as compared to CCI SV and Eley.
$229 a case with free shipping is an exceptional price in my view, I paid $250 last week, awh....nuts.

I think it's fine Mike Shue says he uses it. I figure for $230 the worst (pardon the pun) case is I have to sort them to get some match ammo. A tedious affair but in 1 hour I will have enough for 5 x 900 matches saving me $80 to $180.
The only problem with sorting plan is you have 500 rounds of practice ammo that does not group well. However, to practice Time and Rapid it will clean targets. You just have to work for it to shoot mid 90's slow fire.
I recently shot a 290 NMC in practice with the 1080 stuff sorted including a 97 6x slow fire at 25 yards. In competition my best NMC was 287 with SSI SV outdoors so I think it has potential.

Unsorted ammo shoots sub 1" in my pistols Rich. Spend more time dry firing and shooting than sorting. Cheap ammo is cheap ammo. I initially had some weak powder charges with the Aguilla and its shooting pretty good now.

I don't know. The last case I bought has many, many FTF. Can't use it in a match for sure, does make good ball and dummy ammo. I won't be buying anymore regardless of price.

I shoot the Aguila Super Extra high velocity and the Rifle Match. Both shoot just as well as CCI SV in my SW Model 41 and SW 22 Victory. I have had no bad rounds after shooting 3000+ of them in all.
Re: Aquila 22lr SV Inexpensive Price
How do you sort the ammo, is there a guage or some sort of a tool to assist in the sorting?

I've shot a lot of the pistol match.. it's a bit lighter than CCI but shots very well in my Marvel and Nelson. Rifle Match will surprise you

Hornady makes a gauge you use with a mike. While for practice sorting is not worth the effort , I believe it does eliminate some of the FTF rounds which have either a small or thick rim thickness. CCI SV or SK is not worth sorting because they have less variance.Sevens wrote:How do you sort the ammo, is there a guage or some sort of a tool to assist in the sorting?
Tested the ammo it today I see no difference with the Eley Primed Super extra 1080 fps stuff. Box says Aguila Primed instead of Eley Primed that is the only difference and $9 a brick cheaper and may be cleaner.
100% reliable over 50 rounds. I did lube them by putting a the 59 rounds in a plastic bag and dropping 4 drops of lucas oil in the bag and then gently shaking them to spread the oil evenly. I fin that is effective and uses less oil then lubing the 1st round in the magazine. I takes 30 seconds and is worth the effort afterwards I just put them in an empty CCI 100 round box.
May be cleaner than the slower stuff.

Re: Aquila 22lr SV Inexpensive Price
In case anyone is interested in buying lots of the Aguila, Target Sports USA has a membership that prices that 5000 round case for $204 shipped. The membership also allows you to buy any other ammo from them at a discount and with free shipping at any quantity.
Looks like the Geco Match is also lowest price there, and with the membership it is $413/5000.
If anyone is in or around Houston, TX and wants some, I signed up for the membership and would be glad to buy it.

Have any of you tried the Norma Match 22? It appears that they are getting very aggressive with pricing.
Feeds well in my Benelli 95. They say it is 1100fps, but groups very close to CCI SV.

My ransom rest testing shows Aguilla .22 ammo to be as accurate as CCI SV in my M41. However, I do get 1-2 failure to eject or feed rounds, per box of 50, in my M41, High Standard Supermatic Citation, and Nelson Conversion. I use it as practice ammo.

Try this get some light high quality gun oil like lucas.Archer Gravely wrote:My ransom rest testing shows Aguilla .22 ammo to be as accurate as CCI SV in my M41. - Get a plastic zip lock bag
- Drop 2/4 small drops of oil into the bag
- Place 100 to 200 rounds into the bag
- Drop 2/4 more drops into the bag and gently roll the rounds around in the bag and distribute the oil evenly
The end product should feel like SK maybe less oily, the whole process should take less than a few minutes and worth it as it improves reliability. The most time is spent repackaging the rounds. I like this method rather than dropping oil on the first round of the magazine because:
- All the bullets are lubed
- I think the wax on Aguila and to a lesser extent CCI is a little sticky and the oil makes the wax softer
- Since the bullets feed and extract better and as the lube per bullet is very light the chamber is cleaner longer
- Do the math 6 drops of lube per 100 rounds is less than 20 drops of lube introduced to your gun by lubing the first round which means less oil going into places that should not be oiled
- I also think this method keeps the pistol a little cleaner

Re: Aquila 22lr SV Inexpensive Price
I shoot it in my S&W 617 with good results. The Aguila subsonic may be a tad more accurate but with one ragged hole at 50' shooting from the bench it is hard to tell.
Re: Aquila 22lr SV Inexpensive Price
This weekend I shot some of my new lot of "Aguila primed". All shots at 50 yards were on call. No alibis or failures of any kind. I was shooting a Nelson conversion on a Caspian frame with a 19# mainspring and 8# recoil spring. I have another case ordered, should be here tomorrow.
