45acp bullets
First topic message reminder :
I would appreciate if I could get some recommendations for some 45acp bullets. I would like to know what size, (weight) and kind of bullet and where do get them from? I just bought some 200gr swc from Precison they are coated bullets.

Re: 45acp bullets
I have both, John, & have the M funnel installed but when I tried the special seater die, the top of the HP was getting nicked from the lower portion of the seater die before contacting the shoulder. That seater die leaves quite a bit of clearance between the OD of the seater die & the ID of the die itself. The locating pin keeps it in line in 1 direction, but not 90 degrees from that position. That's the reason that I went back to the Dillon seater die.

Re: 45acp bullets
You don't by any chance have a link to the 45 "M" die on ebay. evidently my searching skills are lacking, only thing I found was one for 40 s&w.jglenn21 wrote:On my 550 I use an M style powder funnel which aligns the bullet much better than the standard Dillon funnel. Also use a special seater for the dillon seating die which seats off the bullets shoulder. Loads the swaged 185 SWCHP perfectly.
You can get both off eBay

Re: 45acp bullets
for the 185 HPSWC I run from 3.8 -3.9 of BE
4.0 of WST would work also

Are you using a reduced weight RC spring?jglenn21 wrote:for the 185 HPSWC I run from 3.8 -3.9 of BE

Re: 45acp bullets
those loads are for my 45 Wad gun with a slide mounted UD.
10 lbs recoil spring on my guns
if I was not running a slide mounted Dot I'd probably be at a 13 -14lb spring
when I go test a new gun I usually take several weight springs with me and a pair of dikes... Not afraid to cut a spring or two if that works. just keep good notes.

Re: 45acp bullets
The Magnus #801 is a 185 gr. SWC, cast, button nose, flat base lead bullet. A friend gave me a few to load and try out, but my seater die seats by the shoulder and leaves a circular indention. Would this be acceptable without loss of accuracy, or would I need to seat by the nose with another die?
Any comments on the #808 185 gr. SWC, BB, cast, H&G 68 style?
Thanks,
Norman

Re: 45acp bullets
Should be ok. The Lyman version seating punch was the same as the round nose 225 GI style cast bullet. So you could try the RN seating stem. Worth a shot.

Re: 45acp bullets
I use Zero 200gr swaged L-SWC bullets, and after about 1000 loaded & shot, I've been very happy with them. I reload with the Lee 4-die carbide set, with an rrpmi shoulder seating stem in the seater die. I adjusted and re-adjusted the flare until I could place the bullet into the case mouth with some semblance of straightness. The whole base goes into the case mouth, but only little bit... maybe about half way (or maybe a little less) from the base to the lube ring. It's helpful to look at the lube ring relative to the case mouth to ensure that the bullet is sitting straight in the case.Gary Wells wrote:Are you using any special dies for the Zero 200 gr swaged L-SWC?noylj wrote:So far, the best bullet I have found is Zero 200gn swaged L-SWC and Precision Bullets 200gn swaged L-SWC is second.
I recently loaded the 185 gr Magnus swaged HP's and lining the bullet up was difficult but not impossible.
What dies & powder funnel stem are you using?
That seems to work pretty well for me (10 shots all in the 10-ring at 50 yds when rested on a block of wood last weekend), but I'm open to suggestions for improvement, especially regarding ways to improve the consistency of the straightness (I just eyeball it), and secondarily to improve the ease/speed of placing the bullet in the case mouth.
