OAL for Magnus 170gr LSWC in 45 ACP?
Greetings. I was on the old e-mail list and this is my first post here. I'm going to load the 170gr bullet to shoot from my revolver indoors at 50', where I can't use jacketed bullets. I am currently using the Zero 185 JHP at OAL of 1.25+, which may be longer than it needs to be, but is very accurate in my 1911 at 25 yards, and I copied it from a friend. It would be convenient if I could set the same OAL for both bullets, but I'm mainly interested in getting the 170gr correct for now.
Thank you.
Thank you.

most of us simply seat the SWCs based on the rim of the bullet being just above the case by say a thumbnail. many of us use a seating die that seats the bullet based on it's rim so different bullets can be seated the same.

Thank you J Glenn, makes sense. That would put it at 1.24 with less than .030 above the rim. I'd hope to think I can load the Zero JHP at the same OAL without affecting accuracy at 25 yards, as I'd only be setting it in .01 deeper than it is now. I'm under the impression some people run these JHPs as short as 1.20
Is there any reason I should not take some loaded rounds of my 185 JHP and put them back through the seating and crimp dies to find out?

probably not going to hurt a thing at 25 yds. Think my Magnus 185s are 1.240

By flipping the Dillon seating die insert to the round nose side, it seats the JHP just a few thousandths under 1.24. Life is good, if I can remember to flip it when I change bullets and powder. The wadcutter side of the insert made it way too short, under 1.20. I'll test it outside when I get a chance. Thanks again.

Well, these are working out. I managed to shoot 273 the last two weeks indoors after switching from the Python, with which I'd been unable to reach 270 the prior 6 weeks.
We just started outside Bullseye matches. I was sighting in at 50 yards and noticed the 185 JHPs were grouping tighter in the breezy conditions, so I used them at 50 yards and the Magnus 170s at 25 yards. The Winchester primers in my JHP load won't reliably detonate in my 625 when shooting double action with the Miculek spring kit.I had one FTF shooting single action.
I did alright, 86 slow fire and 95/98 timed/rapid fire. Total 279 Rapid fire target below. Feel like I'm developing the muscle memory needed to shoot my 625-8 double action.
