Pistol stripping tips. (52-2 next)
I picked up a S&W 39-2 pretty cheap and I'm going to replace the springs with a Wolff service pack. I snatched this pistol up to get familiar with the design for doing the same thing to my 52-2. Looking for tips when detail stripping unfamiliar pistols. I pretty much just have the schematic to go off of. Thanks

My coach/mentor used to get under a sheet in the middle of the floor whenever he detail stripped a new pistol...

Maybe this will help: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/529547-complete-disassembly-assembly-all-s-w-model-52s.html
I was scared to death to detail strip my precious 52 (and I detail strip my 1911s often, can take em apart and put back together pretty much blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back). But after the grips were removed and the backstrap retaining pin was punched out, I knew there's no way back. I disassembled the frame, cleaned up the sear and hammer hooks and put everything back the way it was. The only thing that was a bit annoying was to reassemble the backstrap, because you have to keep the mainspring compressed and make sure that strut goes into the slot in the backstrap. So it took me about 15 min and few curses here and there. Well the gun is back as new, and still goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

Thank you gentleman. The 39-2 is done with all new springs. I feel pretty good about tackling the 52-2 next and it really needs it!
