Is your Beretta set up as a ball gun for CMP matches or are you just using it for NRA Centerfire?

What would be a good reason to use an custom M9 in a match instead of a 1911 in 45 acp?

Re: Tips on shooting BE with custom Beretta
when the rules were a little more strict for cmp service pistol it was either gi grip safety 1911 or m9. with the rule changes most are using 1911 in 45 with reduced loads. some are switching to 1911 in 9mm. Few are shooting the m9...well unless you own one already and are accustom to the m9. As a double stack many have a hard time gripping the gun and reaching the trigger. If its a sams m9 it will shoot. It should of came with a test target as well as load recommendations.

Re: Tips on shooting BE with custom Beretta
When I was shooting a Tony Kidd Beretta, I found that it really liked higher velocity ammo at the long line. If you use your long line load at the short line, you give up any advantage of reduced recoil. Having become distinguished with a 1911 using factory hard ball, I didn't notice much difference in scores, when I went with the Beretta. The Tony Kidd Beretta was much more accurate than my Clark ball gun with hard ball, however. Some top shooters have shot Berettas in CMP matches and achieved really amazing scores. If you like shooting your Beretta with the hinged trigger and fatter grip, keep at it. It's all the same marksmanship fundamentals.Sheriff1962 wrote:I shoot 1911's most of the time . Thank You all. I am new to CMP BE matches or any kind of official BE matches. Was shooting PPC for years. Decided to start shooting in CMP BE matches. I like my single stack 1911's with 185swc Federal Match ammo for 25 and 50 yards . But since I own other BE style pistols ,I like to experiment:)

your 1911 would probably qualify for cmp if you have a 4lb trigger, iron sights preferably target adjustable (not aristocrat rib). for sure would qualify NRA with 3.5lb trigger

I like to stick with the same load for 25 and 50. Is 185 Federal Match a good idea ? What do most .45 shooters use ?
