Wad Cutters in 38 Super
Anyone every try wad cutters in a 38 super? Thinking of resizing some 148s and seeing if it will work.

Yup. Didn't work very well. They had to be loaded very deep in order to fit in the chamber/throat, and their short OAL produced feeding problems.
It might work for you, or others might have had better luck.

Most people shoot a SWC or FP. Some load them down to 38 Special velocities.

Re: Wad Cutters in 38 Super
I have some 130gr SWC from Magnus coming. I had them sized to .356 for the Super. I will let you know how they work when they get here. Think they are going to work great. I had the same bullet sized to .355 for the 9mm and they worked out well.
Correction .356 for 9mm and .357 for 38 Super

I got asked what bullet I was using. It is Magnus number 509. They are listed under 38/357. Terry will size them upon request. I just left him a note in the instructions.

I've been shooting .356 in 9mm and .357 in 38 super. Great results.

Re: Wad Cutters in 38 Super
My only excuse is that I have been chasing mule deer all week with a pistol and it must have my thinking all messed up. The 509 comes .358 and I use .356 and .357 just like messenger. The barrels measure .355 (9mm) and .356 (38 Super). Thanks for catching that....oopsmessenger wrote:LenV wrote:I have some 130gr SWC from Magnus coming. I had them sized to .356 for the Super. Yes, and WHAT EXACTLY is your groove diameter? You need to slug your barrel and use lead bullets that are AT LEAST 0.001" larger, in most cases. The 9x19, .38 Super, .38 Spl, and .357 Mag all have the same groove and bore dimensions.

Re: Wad Cutters in 38 Super
Pretty sure I mentioned my exact dimensions in the post just before yours. My 9mm's measure (slugged) .355 and my 38 Supers measure .356 (slugged) I have never found any of my 38 Super barrels that measured the same as my 9mm. I only have three 38 Super and 2 9mm so I don't know how "most" of them measure. I tried .357 in my 952-2 one time and that was a disaster. It wouldn't print 5 in the black at 25yds. I suspect you might not of noticed that I corrected the .356 to .357 once I realized that I was giving bore not bullet measurements..noylj wrote:>I have some 130gr SWC from Magnus coming.
