hollow base wad cutters 38 cal ?

I recently acquired 400 Hornady 148 gr hbwc that are from the early 70's and 500 Star 148 gr hbwc. They both measure .358 on my caliper. They both look like they are sized and lubed, but is their any chance they are not lubed ? The Star's have 3 lube grooves but there is no lube in them, are they coated ? The Hornady's have no lube grooves and look like the ones I buy now.

YES THEY ARE LUBED, THEY SHOULD HAVE A VERY LIGHT WHITE "WAXIE" LIKE COATING. THE STAR BOX SHOULD BE MARKED SPECIAL MATCH. REGULAR STARS WERE BLACK GREASE LUBED . THE HORNADY HAD A SIMILAR WHITE TRANSLUCENT LUBE. JP

Your dies will affirm they are lubed after about 50 bullets.

The Stars are dark gray kind of blackish but not greasy at all, perhaps they darkened some from being so old. They have like a dry lube like the Hornady's.

IF YOU CANNOT SEE GREASE IN THE LUBE GROOVES THEY ARE THE SPECIAL MATCH WITH THE DIPPED WAXIE LIKE LUBE. JP

nope no lube in the grooves so they must be special match
