S&W E-Series 1911 45
First topic message reminder :
I have just got into Bullseye / Precision Pistol shooting and one of the guys let me shoot his dedicated 1911 w/ Marvel 22lr slide and shot my best score ever .
What I would like to know is if a S&W E-series 1911 45 ACP 5" would be a good candidate for a dedicated 22lr pistol with a Marvel OR Nelson lock back 22LR upper ?
I have emailed a few gunsmiths and have gotten prices on a custom built lower and a marvel upper for around $1600 , which is fine by me , but for that price I would rather have the option of having 2 guns basically for the same price by supplying my own 1911 45 pistol & turning it into a 22lr , with an option of maybe shooting it in a 45 match if I would like .
Any suggestions would be welcome .

if you can take a 1911 apart and put it back together you can do it I put one in, and it works did not have to do any modification .
go to bullseye in door range or 54 range an find out when air capital gun club is having there matches or better yet look up air capital gun club they have a web site and they have bullseye matches there in summer out by White water north of Wichita I bet they can help you great bunch of shooters in that club.

I am mechanical inclined and could most likely do the parts switch out , but I do not have the tools and don't feel comfortable messing with my firearm if I can find a qualified person that I can pay to have it done and feel good about shooting it later .Deerspy wrote:if you can take a 1911 apart and put it back together you can do it I put one in, and it works did not have to do any modification .

I am a member at range54 and shoot with the bullseye guys , and the guy they told me about think he's retired now that used to do gunsmithing.
I'll find someone , I may just have to send it out to have the work done .

I run GSG magazines in my two Nelson conversions on Kimber frames with KC's Battleaxe triggers just dropped in. Had no issues with the nelson magazines. Keeping the chamber and bolt face clean. Triggers will pick up 2.00 but not 2.25. Both guns run have run 100% through 10,000 rounds.
