Dillon 550
While working with PhotoEscape on his 750 primer feed issue solution, came across an interesting tidbit. The brass ends he made to replace the Dillon 750 plastic ones work perfectly on the 550. A permanent solution to jams, missed primers, and other primer feed issues caused by worn or warped plastic ends..
Darn things have worked perfectly for me in both the 550 and 750. Hopefully he will make them available and end some aggravation for us.

I know of a home for four if they become available.

FWIW - Dillon used brass tips on the RL1000, RL300, and RL450's and I've never had to replace one on these 3 machines. Glad PhotoEscape is making them available for newer machines!

XL650 uses them as well.

The 650 tips are unique.
Hopefully AP will be able to bring them to us in mass. I've only use Win. primers in my testing so it's very early, but encouraging.

Re: Dillon 550
I'll look into machining this part / set. On one end I need more testing done after I fix my 750. Prior to breaking it, I've tested Winchester and CCI small primers, and CCI large primers. I believe, Jimmy G tested large Winchester primers as well. I need couple of weeks. Side note, I've never thought that issue existed all these years on 550. This press alone with 650 was manufactured for 30 plus years!

Re: Dillon 550
For me it's more of an upgrade, I've not loaded enough to have a real issue, but have had of late a failure to drop the last primer. I haven't tried the 45 case in the rod yet, but would still go for the brass piece to make it that much more bulletproof... Half a dozen I think, evenly split large and small ..

Re: Dillon 550
If this is an upgrade, how is it an upgrade? What is actually being improved? My 550 prime system runs great, so maybe I'm just biased since I'm not having issues.

Re: Dillon 550
The plastic tips are prone to wear and warping. The tip's hole has to be perfectly round to allow the primers to drop straight down into the cup.. they can be the cause of flipped primers or even primers not dropping at all.
yes, the majority of them work pretty well but they can be a headache. The brass replacement will resolve any of these issues.
The plastic tip on my new 750 has perfect, but i own 3 550s. One of them is over 30 years old. I think I've seen most of the primer issues at this point. I'll change all of my plastic tips out most likely..

Re: Dillon 550
Posting this on several related treads.
I'm finally comfortable to sell Replacement Brass ends for Dillon XL750 and 550 primer tubes. Product can be found here -
http://www.photoescapeinc.com/products/replacement-brass-ends.html
I wasn't comfortable to run big batch of these ends, so price reflects availability. I have about 50 of each size.
I have couple of new products in the pipeline, and will be posting as they are ready. However it might be affected by matches coming up, - I can't wait to start shooting matches again! 2700 in Bristol, IN is hopefully next Saturday! I'm sure everyone wants the same I do! Let's get shooting starting again, yet PLEASE BE SAFE! AND MAKE SURE OTHERS ARE SAFE AROUND YOU TOO!

Re: Dillon 550
Lee Love of UniqueTek thinks that SDB and new RL1100 presses use same primer tubes with plastic ends as 550/750. He asked me to post this question on the forum as he prepares webpage for launching product on his website.
I'm not sure about RL1100. However does anyone here owns both 550 and SDB? I'd appreciate information.

Re: Dillon 550
According to the parts lists, the SDB and the 550 use the same primer tube assemblies.
I'm pretty sure I've seen where some have used the XL650 primer tubes with brass ends in the SDB.
OK, just checked since I have a 650 and SDB. The smaller dia of the XL650 brass end is .283" and the plastic end is .275".
The 650 brass end will NOT fit in the SDB magazine without reducing the O.D..

According to the parts lists, 550 and RL1050 use the same magazine assemblies.
Choose the parts list on the left of the page for the press desired. https://www.dillonprecision.com/square-deal-parts_8_43.html

Re: Dillon 550
Jim,
I don't have RL1050.
Super 1050 looks as can use either 650 or 750 tubes. Mine was purchased used and came with small primer tube with blue plastic end. I seldom use this press as it is dedicated to loading Remington 148gr HBWC, - I have crimp die on station 6, and then fcd with crimp removed on last station. So when I took priming system out I can see the key for plastic end cut in, but diameter is such that brass ended tube from 650 fits in fine, and brass ended tube from 750 also fits fine. Priming system on 1050 designed a bit better then on 750, - primers drop on flat surface as opposed to in priming bar's round thing, so few extra tenth in length do not make any difference. With that said, I presume, that RL1050 would be the same. TMBK, the difference is in driving systems, and platform's range of motion.
Would be nice if someone who has both versions of 1050 could confirm.
