Ultrasonic cleaner?
Who is using an ultrasonic cleaner for gun parts?
What kind are you using, and which cleaning solution?
Thanks!

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
I do, Val!
I have older 5 GA Infante S9 ultrasonic cleaner for both cleaning brass and for cleaning guns. Here is the link to current version of the same cleaner I have - https://www.infanteultrasonics.com/product-page/s9
For brass cleaning I use 5% solution 6.4 OZ per GA or 32 OZ per 5 GA of water - 4 Cups / 8 Half Cups of Milliard cooking grade citric acid - https://www.amazon.com/Milliard-Citric-Acid-10-Pound/dp/B00GNBHPAS/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-nc-drs1_0?crid=WDQN7GQNXBZY&cv_ct_cx=milliard+citric+acid&dchild=1&keywords=milliard+citric+acid&pd_rd_i=B00GNBHPAS&pd_rd_r=c8bf9ca5-2245-4ea6-bf00-1572f63d03ca&pd_rd_w=iXv0b&pd_rd_wg=Xhmpa&pf_rd_p=bb3ab43b-b104-4d0e-bd07-c0b6b72185d0&pf_rd_r=YJTGV07YQY2J8VMMQYX4&psc=1&sprefix=milliard+%2Caps%2C178&sr=1-1-88388c6d-14b8-4f70-90f6-05ac39e80cc0
I use pans with Infante's cleaning and lubing solutions to clean firearms.
I had very good experience with this company, and even posted short blip on the subject on my FB account.

'JIPGOV', do you re-use the Lucas Oil solution, or does it get thrown away after each use?
What is the name of it, and where does one buy it?

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
I use the cheapie harbor freight one for steel gun parts and jewelry, tools, and other stuff. The liquid that I use is simple green as a cleaning solution.
Make sure you do not ultra sound plastic, aluminum, painted parts, etc. it is a agressive cleaning procedure and it will wear down softer metals like aluminum, gold, brass, bronze, etc.
Since the cleaning fluid is water based, make sure you dry and oil all steel when it comes out of the tank. If you are doing a revolver frame, it needs to be disassembled completely. Most every firearm part needs to be completely disassembled. If you do not disassemble it, the gunk in a firing pin cavity will remain and hold the cleaning solution and you have not accomplished anything.
I am looking at that Lucas cleaning solution posted above and thinking about it.
When I first got it I thought that I would be using it a lot for gun parts. Since I have had it, I only use it for the wifey's wedding ring and rarely do I pull it out for a gun I have busted down.
Regards,
Crankster

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
I hated the smell of that Lucas cleaner. It reminded me of the floor wax my high school janitors used.

I use the Hornady One Shot for gun parts, it works pretty good if you get it good and hot. RCBS brass cleaner is very good on brass and leaves a film that keeps the brass from oxidizing.

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
Greetings,
Some solvents will remove the bluing from guns/parts.
Others will attack Aluminum.
Then, some will turn brass a strange color.
Contact the manufacture and ask if their product is safe.
Personally? I use Simple Green Extreme. Available at Grainger.
Simple Green Extreme
I dilute the concentrate 1:10 with water and use in my UltraSonic. I clean everything in it. Guns, machined parts, bullet moulds, anything that is dirty.
Cheers,
Dave

Please clarify, - do you use this product in ultrasonic tank? I see that it can be diluted up to 1:127. What dilution ratio do you use?
Thanks,

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
I have 2 good ones that I use for brass. I have not tried using them for parts. Honestly I was too worried I would damage the finish. Guess I need to give it a try.

Reviving the old thread. What do people use for ultrasonic lubing (I do not really trust CLP approach)?

Ultrasonic leaning solutions
Does anyone have experience using both the Lucas Bore Cleaner and the Infante Sonic Tonic.
Does one clearly clean better than the other?
Do they remove copper?

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner?
I doubt that ultrasonic cleaners will remove copper. Contrary to belief from some, copper doesn’t “wet” steel and this is true of rubbed off jacket material left in the bore. So subsequent shots will remove some of the copper left by the shot before. If the barrel is cracked from heat and/or carburization, however, the cracks will mechanically grab some copper and that can be troublesome to remove. So, other means are needed to remove copper. But it does remove a lot of dirt in some teeny & tiny places. It took a stiff operating revolver and freed them up by removing old residual oil. Mine is just a harbor freight special. Works great.
