Benelli MP95e ammo issue
I fairly recently acquired a Benelli MP95e
I have put in the recoil buffer per the sticky and the buffer seems to be working well.
I was having very good reliability with Aguila pistol match ammo, then I ran out.
I tried Aguila Std Velocity, and Federal Automatch;
I am having a failure to extract with the empty brass being pulled only about 1/2 way out of the chamber.
Federal Champion 36gr copper washed works without issue.
I find this extremely odd and not at all expected.
Although I wasn't planning on using that ammo in this pistol, I will if I have to, it's just not the best target ammo.
I did search a little and found the problem correctly described, without a proper resolution noted.
I also found another post where reliability issues were mysteriously fixed by a detailed stripping and cleaning.
As best I can tell the extractor looks in excellent shape and I have been keeping this gun pretty clean after shooting.
Is this a common problem with a standard solution ?
Thoughts ? Questions ?
I do have a case of Aguila Pistol Match on backorder

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
I've had some issues with my Benelli. Mine just wanted hotter ammo. CCI Blazer was what my gun wanted. I'm down to my last box.
I normally shoot Marvel conversions. These have been less picky about ammo. I know we're all looking forward to the day that 22s are back in abundance.
Buy it cheap. Stack it deep.

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
I have a model 90 but it works the same. They are standard velocity ammo pistols and that works best. They are very reliable as I can shoot an entire season without an alibi using SK Standard Plus ammo. They are blow back design and do not even need the extractor for a fired round to come out. The extractor is needed to remove a live round without firing it. Field strip the pistol and keeping the pistol in a safe direction, hold it so the barrel is facing down and drop a round in the chamber. It should fall all the way in flush then invert the pistol with the barrel up and the round should fall out. If not, clean the chamber. If it passes this test but stills does not function correctly, at the range let it chamber a round, remove the magazine, and fire the round at your target. Now it will not eject it correctly because it needs the magazine for that but it should come out of the chamber completely upon firing. If not, something is dragging on the slide somewhere. If the case comes out when it fires, it is very likely dragging on the magazine somewhere so try a different magazine. Hope this helps.

My model 41 S&W does fine with Federal if I wax rounds with reloading sizing paste wax. I put a bit on my fingers as I fill the magazine. No problems then!

try cleaning the chamber very good, that will help, also these are known for extractor issues check it and make sure the hook is good and sharp so it can get a good pull on a empty case

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
I had more issues with it today even with the Federal champion 36 grain plated.
I took it down when I got home, took the extractor out and sharpened it a little with a fine hone.
I cleaned the chamber very well, I swear I could find nothing that looked wrong with the extractor or dirt in the chamber. I even cleaned inside the hole the plunger and spring go into.
I guess I will find out this weekend if there is any change for better or worse.
There is little more frustrating than having a very accurate and fun to shoot pistol that is having reliability issues.
By the looks of the extractor I should probably keep a spare on hand.
Where is the best place to order them from ?

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
Update;
After a little more cleaning, fiddling, and shooting it seems to come down to something about the chamber.
If I take a bore mop with a very small amount of oil on it and lightly mop the chamber from the breech every 25rds-ish
Things seem to run pretty well with whatever I stuff in the mag.
IMO putting oil in the chamber should have the opposite effect as it would tend to hold the unburned powder and poo making the chamber sticky.
I bought some micro fine graphite to try to swab the chamber with and see how that goes.
Anyone ever hear of anything like this ?
Would putting some kind of very light bullet lube on the brass help ?
thoughts?

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
Most feed and extraction problem begin with the magazine. Check your carefully and see if one work better than another. Then, maybe you'll have a place to start.
For ammo, my MP95e likes Wolf Match Extra, CCI SV, and Eley Match or Eley Tenex.
Make sure the gun is really clean.
A call to Larry's might help if needed.

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
try different ammo, a lot of mostly us ammo is bigger and sometimes is to tight a fit for euro chambers. MY aw93 wont shoot federal or cci without several per box not seating fully. It runs eley,sk,wolf and aguila without any issues.

Benelli MP 95 Ammo Issue
My MP 95 shoots SK Standard Plus w/o any difficulties.
I find the SK Std Plus the best ammo when considering cost accuracy and reliability
I load my magazines, place a drop of oil on the first round and am good to go.
I purchase it through Champion, if my memory serves me right I paid $115 for 2 bricks shipped

Re: Benelli MP95e ammo issue
A bullseye shooter friend told me about the tiny drop of oil on the top round trick.
That seems to have solved my issue.
I now rarely have extract/feed issues
thanks, DaveV
