ATTERBURY NRA 2024
I'm looking forward to my 2nd trip to Atterbury this year for the NRA national pistol matches.
Last year we had a thread to post questions about the venue, directions around base, results etc. The match is less than a week away so let's start it again.
I hope to see everyone there this year again and more. Consider sounding out if you're also attending - there's a rumor about low attendance! The first episode of American Rifleman TV this season showcased the 2023 match at its beautiful range.
Good shooting,
Andrew

I spoke with SteveT earlier and it sounds like we'll have a strong showing again from Illinois. I'll be getting in around noon tomorrow (Sunday).

Roy,
I'm not refereeing this year and really haven't studied the program but I would be very surprised if the NRA didn't have team
matches at the National Championship. There a LOT of team trophies that would go un-awarded otherwise.
Also, team shooting where many competitors try their hardest to contribute to winning.
I hope you do well Mr. Grumpy!

I'm guessing that the building just north east of the range that they used in 2023 is still the "NRA HQ".
Sara, or MBM, or someone, please correct me if I am wrong?
MBM. Spot on, I am Mr. Grumpy!

Actually it is a different building this year. It is called MTF (multi-purpose training facility), #40181.
The best way to describe the location is east of the fire station and south of range control. When you come into the main gate, go straight until you see the airfield and fire station; the MTF is on the left. It is halfway between the rifle ranges and the pistol range.
The NRA used it for the World Shooting Championships back in April (which were quite fun on day 3, but miserable on day 1).

The NRA office is easy to find. Just keep going strait from the gate; eventually you'll have the brick fire station on your right and the NRA office is just past that on your left. They're closed for lunch until 1230.

Roy, it looks like you might be right about prelim teams. They are not listed on the calendar anyways. The rest of the week has them as usual just not on Monday.
See you all there.

Re: ATTERBURY NRA 2024
There were 64 competitors on the line. Weather was nice, high around 85. I felt perhaps one sprinkle on the day, but it could have been a flock of birds. (My theory is that the 50 cal to the left and the 50 cal to the right scared off the rain.) There were some issues with the short-line targets but hopefully that will be resolved.
Results:
1 John Zurek 885-42X
2 Jonathan Shue 882-38X
3 Travis Jorgensen 874-41X
I had a good day, with NO MISSES and more than one target which required no tape/pasters.
The preliminary team match was starting when I left.
TUESDAY:
.22 Match starts at 0800.
Team matches follow.
EIC match follows

Re: ATTERBURY NRA 2024
We finished at around 2 p.m. Partly sunny, light wind, currently 82 degrees. Any rain was caught in traffic and won't be arriving until 4 p.m. or later.
Matches were pretty smooth but delayed a few times due to range equipment issues. (I tend to let those things roll off me, so there may have been more.)
The 22 match winners:
1 Jon Shue 895-64X
2 John Zurek 887-52X
3 Lisa Emmert 884-42X
I haven't checked the team match or EIC results yet; connectivity is not great in the MTF building.
I personally had three notables for the day.
-- Participated in a 2-person team match (my partner may throw me back) Our team name: Broadway Broadsides. 🤪
-- Personal best target: 98-2X in timed fire during the EIC match. That critter is going into a frame! Amazed.
-- And I snagged a
Competitors meeting coming up soon.

Re: ATTERBURY NRA 2024
As Andrew said, weather was Atterbury-lovely again. No rain, light wind, mostly sunny. Mercury is at 84 presently. There was a light smattering of rain in Indy on the drive home.
CF Results
1 Jonathan Shue 885-47X
2 John Zurek 874-40X
3 David Lange 873-31X
(What does it say about me that when I type 'Jonathan' predictive text offers 'Shue' and 'John' yields 'Bickar' and 'Zurek'?)
On the line, things went more smoothly, except for one range alibi that left those of us on the high end confused as to what was going on. And a few more people were added to the end of the line!
I had a fairly good day, although I got frazzled by needing to call some alibis. Someone's pistol needs a bit of cleaning tonight...scrub that bolt face!
Tomorrow it all wraps up. 45 Day starts at 0800, followed by Team matches, Distinguished Revolver, and the Awards Ceremony. See ya in the morning!
