I am not involved in this program - just sharing "the word on the street"!

Wondering whether NRA will call off matches because of a little bit of wind and rain?
(No, I'm not still mad that I flew all the way across the country to shoot in wind and rain and then had a match called off due to wind and rain. Why do you ask?)

So...
Looking at the schedule and with this being the NRA Championship, I have a question to ask regarding the EIC matches.
For a non distinguished shooter, would the EIC matches be considered one of the 5 allowed per calendar year? Or will you get two extra if you shoot both the NRA and Perry matches?

Re: NRA Cardinal 2025
So, I am not qualified to give a definitive answer, but, as I understand things, the EIC program has always been under the control of the CMP, so, therefore, the "National Match" exemption or "free pass" only applies to CMP Perry. But, as always, that is IMHO and subject to better informed fact!
Except for Distinguished Revolver and, my favourite, Harry Reeves, which, sadly, seem to be descending into obscurity. Pity.

Re: NRA Cardinal 2025
The extra match only applies to the National Trophy Pistol Match, which is shot on Saturday at Camp Perry, so yes, any other EIC counts against the matches you can shoot in a year.
Even at Perry, standard EIC matches count against it like the 22 or revolver EIC matches or when the warmup match was a service pistol EIC.

I'm confused. Are you only allowed to shoot 5 per year? I thought I read recently that you can shoot as many as you want but can't get points in more than 5 in one year.

All the EIC matches at Camp Perry are considered national matches and therefore do not count against your 5. That includes: revolver, .22, and AP

Re: NRA Cardinal 2025
I talked to Steve on that specifically, the decision was due to the fact that they couldn’t get through commands without the soggy targets blowing out. That and trying to get an entire line of shooters to follow directions for correct replacement for the conditions is next to impossible. Was a bummer, I was only able to shoot one service pistol match outside of Perry this year.john bickar wrote:Wondering whether NRA will call off matches because of a little bit of wind and rain?

Yeah I understand the conditions, herding cats, etc. I was there. Not blaming anyone, just being my usual b*tchy self.
Cardinal definitely was short-staffed this year due to unforeseen circumstances (ask me and Tony, who were there running stats until 7PM).
That said, if NRA is going to run a National Championship there, I want to shoot the match. And if I travel all the way across the country for it, I want to shoot the match.

I agree about the Reeves match. It is a sad thing to see.

I would expect every effort will be made to run the match, erring for safety.
NRA had to cancel .45 one year at Perry. ( there was a tornado!)
Can state without hesitation it was a very very difficult decision.
You pay money to shoot, and shoot you should!

Not a fan of the change. Now there's one less major CMP-sanctioned match.

Really? Now people don't have to choose between Atterbury or Cardinal, meaning we have three matches with pretty much all the top shooters in the country. I'd wager the increase in shooters at Cardinal will outpace the number of people who shot atterbry by 2026, if not 2025.
Obviously, I'm local to Cardinal, so my views are a little biased, but I think even the CMP views this positively, despite losing the sanctioning of the match.

Re: NRA Cardinal 2025
I would agree with Dave. Change is relative because prior to 2019/2020 we had traditions of Canton and Perry only that pre-dated my travels which started in 2001. If we don't like change I would say lets go back to that but I like the idea of the Cardinal move. I made the effort to shoot at Atterbury to keep the NRA Championships alive but I don't have the time to shoot all 4 of these events. I should now be able to shoot Cardinal (which I have never done) and I look forward to a great match.Dcforman wrote:jareds06 wrote:Not a fan of the change.
