38cal HBWC bullets manufacturers?
Well, yesterday I loaded my last 38 bullet. I used to buy Zero and Magnus bullets from Powder Valley and Midsouth, but they both are OOS. Found some Hornadys but they are a bit too pricey for me. Can anyone recommend any other good source and/or other good HBWC manufacturer?
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!

looks like most companies only offer double end wad cutters, acme, penn and meister have them, might be time to develop a new load.

I've been liking the Hornady 148 HBWCs. Seem to work as well as the Zeros which I used to shoot.

I have a good stock of Zero HBWC's, but have had good results with Penn Bullets wadcutters, when Zero was not available.

.38 HBWC bullet manufactures
Precision Delta has a REAL GOOD 148 HBWC swaged bullet..Probably the best accuracy/bang for the buck..I've shot many and they will shoot 1-1/2 out of my revolver at 50 yds with 2.7 BE.

Re: 38cal HBWC bullets manufacturers?
Back in my PPC days, thru much testing for myself and a police team, it was determined that the Remington 148 HBWC shot the tightest. I did not like the black messy lube, so I washed large batches on hot sunny days, in solvent.. Spread them out on black plywood to heat up and dry in the sun.. This washed off the black gunk, which I replaced with heated liquid Alox. The heat of the sun and heated Alox caused it to spread a thin and even coat over the bullet. Gone was the black mess, easy to load, and shot as good or better. If you measure to OD, you'll notice that the bullet is barrel shaped.. Tapered on each end. Many of the PPC revolvers would shoot under an inch at 50..Bought huge amounts of components from Wideners in Johnson City, TN at the time.

JERRY IS RIGHT. I ALSO HAVE FOUND THE REMINGTON TO SHOOT THE BEST AT 50YDS. WHEN I WAS RUNNING OUT OF STAR SPECIAL MATCH I BEGAN SEARCH OF A REPLACEMENT. I FOUND THE REMINGTON'S TO OUT SHOOT THE STAR SM IN SEVERAL GUNS. YES THEY AR FILTHY AND GUMMY . BUT IT'S WORTH IT. 2.75 GR WST.
I FOUND THEY NEEDED A LITTLE MORE THAN THE STARS WHERE I LOADED 2/65GRS OF WST. JIM P

The most accurate 38 gun I ever shot was a Colt OMM with Remington target ammo. The OMM fantastic trigger helped a lot.

And, Jim P is 100% correct about WST.. That was a secret that no one was willing to tell, for a while back in the day.. Jason Yarema and I hit on it by accident.. I am sure it had been discovered by someone else, as a year or so later everyone was loading it. We wanted to get away from WW231 which was very accurate in some lot#s, but also extremely dirty, and required extra attention while reloading, to prevent unburnt granules from getting trapped under the extractor. We were trying to get TiteGroup figured out. We shot some incredible RR groups with TiteGroup.. Jason was a very talented HM, shooting well into the 1490s, with only a couple years of experience, but he would have one or two flyers every match that he didn't call. At first we suspected the gun, but traced it to the TiteGroup.. Went to WST just because I had a bunch that I bought for bullseye testing, and that really cured the problem..
Most guns will group best somewhere between 2.7 / 2.9 of WST / Rem. 148HBWC / Rem once fired brass; [ no nickel cases] / and Fed primers.

I have not seen a Federal primer for rifle or pistol in ages. I was raised on Federal 210 and 215 in my rifle days.

Re: 38cal HBWC bullets manufacturers?
I was fortunate in the 9mm PPC days. Dennis Anderson of AMI ( Anderson Munitions) was a good friend, and produced superb ammo in all calibers.. So, we did very little experimention with the 9mm. The 2 man team shot it exclusively and set a National record with it at the 2001 Nationals ( Jason Yarema again with Mike Talbert) that held up for nearly ten years..The first time automatics ever won the event..History.!!)I used it to test all the 9mm guns back then.. At one time Dennis revealed the formula, to me, but I have long forgotten what it was.. Old age.. Fantastic ammo. I still have several cases..
