Changing calibers on Dillon XL650?
I purchased a couple of caliber conversion kits, a quick change caliber conversion kit (another powder measure, hopper, etc.) and another priming tube assembly along with my Dillon XL650 thinking that all of the above would make the process of reloading different calibers easier. After taking another look at the setup today unused I decided to just purchase another machine. Is there a quick and efficient way of removing one machine from the bench and replace it with another? I once thought of using a T-track type of setup but that idea has lost steam. I would prefer not to put 2 machines on the same bench. Any ideas?

Just thought, you could run the bolts up from under the bench top, and use wing nuts.

I mount my presses on 1/4x6x8 plates & fabricated a T-slot that is bolted to the workbench.
You could still use plates & just C-clamp to the bench top

Don't ask me how but your words instantly gave me the idea of putting both machines on a rotating platform (Lazy Susan style), all sitting on a Dillon Strong Mount. To change machines all I would have to do is remove a couple of pins or bolts and rotate the platform 180 degrees. No workbench space is wasted because what's behind the press is inaccessible anyway.KenO wrote:Just thought, you could run the bolts up from under the bench top, and use wing nuts.

Nice system but I still like my idea a little better for my current needs in that I don't have to remove a machine and store it. The unused machine is just rotated behind the other. I wonder if Inline Fabrication would be interested in making it for me?Jack H wrote:http://inlinefabrication.com/

Then I suggest two of their stands one behind the other. Then You would just switch them back and forth stand to stand.

The only observation I can make is that, in my experience, to work properly, the 650 requires a more solid mounting and bench than the 550.

I received a response from Dan at Inline Fabrication. Apparently they have made the same rotating tandem setup for someone with 2 Square Deal presses. He's giving thought to adapting the design for 2 XL650s. I still think it's a good idea and look forward to what Dan comes up with. I don't have a case feeder yet but wonder if one feeder could be used for both machines considering they are next to each other?
