Iron sights musings.
Circumstances brought me a new SIG 1911 STX, not my choice but ... there it is. It has those low-mount sights that are common these days and which are all but useless for target work. My own idea of target sights is on the High Standard Citation Trophy but the market has no use for them it seems.
Research unearthed this possible solution:

They make a really nice adjustable rear, a great target front and also a rib combining the two if one wants to avoid the milling work. The rib comes in 5" and 6" and I see no reason why not to install the 6" rib on the 5" SIG and get the benefit of a longer sight radius without the front heaviness of a longslide.
Opinions please?
(Off course one can buy Dot sights for less but I need to work on the wobble first.)

Re: Iron sights musings.
I recently purchased a SIG Target model for an EIC gun (I selected it over the RO becaase it has checkered front/rear strap). Although it comes with "target sights", I had Jon change them to a LPA rear sight.
I agree with Robert, a 6 " rib on a 5"slide might look a bit goofy. I'd want to be a master level shooter before I did that ( then, everyone might copy me..lol).
ps, my reference to Robert was to a reply which now seems to be deleted.

I can't say I know much about sights. However, these folks seem to: http://stores.kensight.com/sight-technical-information/
I stumbled upon that link in my quest for dovetail information on my S&W M41. Kensights.com appears to sell high quality (Iron) sights which include target sights. Their prices seem pretty reasonable to me as well, but then I don't claim to know much about sights.

6" on 5" would definitely look eh ... unusual to say the least but the accuracy would benefit, no?
Yes Stan, Kensington was my choice until I found Aristocrat.

Be sure to check the rules for all the games you will want to compete in.
If you install a rib sight, the pistol will not meet the requirements for CMP / EIC pistols.

Being from Ga I use a lot of Kensights, mainly for carry pistols.. excellent quality and service.

Just an fyi, on my SIG Target, I tried to determine the angle of the cut for the rear sight, hoping to purchase a direct replacement. Apparently SIG uses a proprietary cut. I call SIG, Kensight, and a couple other distributors in my search. My memory is that Kensight was the company who makes the sights for SIG, but they told be the cut angle was proprietary. Ended up just having Jon "fit" what I wanted.

Exact same path here until I found Aristocrat. Check out the photo in the bottom right corner. My STX is black on chrome so the rib will be less obvious.
