1911 Scope Rail
First topic message reminder :
I am close to selling my version of a New Bomar screw pattern 1911 slide mounted rail. It has lightened cuts on the bottom of the rail to shed some weight. High Speed Low Drag! It will have black anodized finish. Photo is of my prototype. If you are interested in purchasing I will be taking pre-orders. $45 plus $7.20 shipping.

weber1B,
Curious why you are "interested in swapping out your Clark rail?" They are nearly identical except perhaps for a few grams and a slot location or two. I am asking because Clark has my Colt slide right now for attaching the same rail you're considering removing.

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
The Clark rail is a little too wide and thick for my rings to seat properly and it ultimately caused me some issues. Also the slots are a little shallow and I ended up with some damage to it from the screws. I just thought perhaps a different rail might resolve these issues and in fact swapping the rail has allowed me to set the rings better. I was using my Marvel rail and my Model 52 mount for comparisons. Overall, the swap did what I wanted it to do.inthebeech wrote:weber1B,

How is this different/better than a regular Clark rail?

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
Similar to Clark but has lightening cuts on the bottom (hidden when mounted). Clark is matte finish and these are gloss finish.

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
My experience was the Clark rail had shallower cuts for the scope mount screws and was perhaps slightly wider and it made it difficult for me to attach the scope rings I was using as securely as I would have liked. Since I switched to Jon's rail, I have not had the same issue and have a solid mount.inthebeech wrote:How is this different/better than a regular Clark rail?

I read this every time you post.
Thank you! (both)

And yet, with all the discussion on Equipment and Ammunition, all the 1.5 inch guns being produced, all the sub whatever inch loads being developed, all the new dot sights, etc., etc., etc.; there hasn't been a change in the record score for a 2700 aggregate match in years! Something to ponder here?

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
I had moved from a Clark rail to a RRA steel combo rail to an Eulette rail.
I like how with Weaver low rings a 1" Ultradot is trapped fore and aft from shifting. Nice work, great finish.
(Edit: Now I can get back to working on fundamentals. )

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
Sorry, no dot yet, and I'm still waiting for the rings. I found some decent looking Vortex and Aimpoint rings, they all should be here next week, I'll see what works better on this rail.
I'm in the process of composing a standard reference set of components that I can recommend to my customers unless they have any specific preferences. Jon's rail definitely made the cut
I wouldn't use any filler screws, just remove the rail. The threads are very fine, taking those filler screws in and out may damage them.
Or better yet, just build another gun for EIC ))) Seriously, I'm a firm believer in a concept of proper dedicated tool for a job.
The front sight is there, it is just covered by the rail and is hard to see.

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
Oh I have a eic gun...but as a backup..so the sight is hidden under the rail...that’s cool!javaduke wrote:Sorry, no dot yet, and I'm still waiting for the rings. I found some decent looking Vortex and Aimpoint rings, they all should be here next week, I'll see what works better on this rail.

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
Just an observation. Jon's mount is nice and does exactly what I wanted. However, if what you want is the perfect mount for your Micro this may not be it. I like to mount my Micros in line with the grip. Right where the rear sight your "not" removing is located. Just an observation. If you like your Micro mounted forward then ignore me.

Re: 1911 Scope Rail
Will it fit between the rear sight and the front sight if I am running Bomars?
