Re: What make model and caliber pistol due you carry every day?
Funny you asked. I help to my range where I'm a member with managing recycling of brass. That sounds very intelligent, but in real life it is nothing but... Once a month I down on full hazmat gear, and sort and clean about 1500-2000 pounds of range brass, or rather brass and whatever garbage folks feel in a mood to leave behind. Without much deliberation, I literally have thousands of live rounds that I need to dispose one way or another. Majority comes in 22LR, 9mm and 5.56 NATO / 223. So about every three or so months, I take one or another designated for the purpose firearm, and go through tactical training using such ammo. I can hear voices cautioning against doing such. Calm down folks, - I'm not a kamikaze on suicide mission. I know that mine sweeper has only one mistake to make. My QC of the ammo is very strict. So here you are - one of my designated firearms is my G19, that I carry quite often (obviously not loaded with the garbage), another one is one of the M4s (otherwise home defense bound) and trusted Browning Buckmark UDX for 22, - my defense weapon from aggressive gray squirrels (Jim - I could not resist! ).
One interesting point I want to make. I deliberately use rounds that will create malfunction of the firearm, jamming it one way or another. This provides me with opportunity to clear malfunction during drills, and I'm trying to do it one handed when possible.
It is fun!

Lately, I carry a Glock 43X. Until I moved to Nevada, my daily carry for 20 years was S&W 337, usually in an ankle holster - I often carried in court.
I just bought a LWS-32 for pocket carry when the weather is hot.
Carrying anything is better than leaving your gun behind because it is too big or too heavy.

This is sort of a related subject. How many are carrying ammunition you custom loaded? I took Massad Ayoob’s MAG-40 and MAG-80 courses. The advice was to carry factory ammunition. One of the case studies included a shooting where the person went to prison, and the problem was the inability to forensically determine the performance of the hand loaded ammunition.

I have always heard that same advice but honestly don't know if it's fact or fiction. I only use factory ammunition developed and tested for defensive use. There are so many options out there today that I don't see a need to save a few dollars. In my case, I chose Hornady Critical Defense. I then tested that in my gun to be sure it functions and that was it. I'll buy a new box or two every couple of years and shoot up the previous boxes. For training, I will use my reloads. They function well and there is a savings there over several thousand rounds.flyer898 wrote:This is sort of a related subject. How many are carrying ammunition you custom loaded? Around town, daytime when I feel relatively safe - S&W Bodyguard.
At night or when I'm in the county on dirt back roads - 1911 and extra magazines plus a Ruger carbine.

Glock 19 or bob-tail 1911 Commander in .45...sometimes a Glock 43 in the summer with shorts and t-shirt. My fav is the 1911 and that's what I carry for church security.
Re: What make model and caliber pistol due you carry every day?
I learned to shoot a 1911 in my 6 years with the Marines and carried a Beretta M9 (model 92G) for another 15 years in the Army.
Funny thing, after retirement, I'm not seeing the need for daily carry but I have my Lifetime CCW card and have worn pistols when I knew I might be going out after dark or into bad sections of the community.
When I do, Its either my FEG copy of a Browning Highpower (not as well finished as a FN pistol but very accurate) or my Romanian TT33 Tokarov in 7.62x25 (she's super slim and easily concealable while also packing a high speed wallop from its "hot" cartridge. I Usually use Hornady's .312" 100gr HP for that pistol.
That said, I also own a Colt Combat Commander in 45ACP. I'm confident in that pistol as well but I prefer the longer sight radius of the other two pistols as I age and this may be going out to one of the sons soon.

Was: S&W J Frame .38spcl. Now: Kel-Tec P32 .32acp. I pocket carry, and that all steel S&W was just too heavy for me. Yes, I trust that Kel-Tec. Has been 100% reliable to date.
