Well looks like there was a compromise. This works for me and I can make Canton too. Bummed I can't make NTI & P100 though.

So revolver and prelim will be going on simultaneously. Does help fill up the day, especially when previously revolver and EIC were there to fill the one day together.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
So July 7-13 will get you Canton and Perry with the exception of 100 rounds of CMP matches?
That's a lot of shooting in 7 days. I'll run the numbers later but it's pretty compelling for a West-Coaster.
Edit: if my arithmetic is correct, that's 870 shots fired in competition in seven days.

That's what Jeff Byham said today on FB.
In the past decade, when I've headed east to shoot bullseye, I've chosen Canton over Perry, in part for some obvious reasons, but also because Canton is a better match at a nicer facility than Perry, and because it's damn near impossible for me to take two weeks off of work and spend a few grand on something that I've done a dozen times already.
800+ rounds in seven days might make the trip to shoot both matches a lot more compelling for me. I've already got Distinguished, P100, Elihu Root, Oglethorpe. I'm not gonna fly to Ohio to shoot 100 rounds then fly back to California. I mean, even the Olympic Trials are at least 120 rounds.
Of course, I'll probably be carrying my shoulder home in a paper bag at the end of those seven days, but I'll have gotten my money's worth

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
I'm with John on this one. For the time versus the shooting, talking to old friends and new ones, eating and drinking opportunities, I'll have to take Canton / Perry for a week over the CMP matches on just Saturday and Sunday. Yep, Canton is better for some things (food, range staff, social opportunities, etc.) and Perry is better for some things (vendors, CMP airgun range/store, more people, smaller cookouts, sightseeing, etc.)
And hanging around northern Ohio for the 4th of July week waiting for Canton to start on Friday doesn't appeal to me very much either. I'm sure some people will like just shooting CMP over 2 days since it doesn't take too much time.
How many vendors will be there for first week of CMP with some limited matches, take the 4th of July week off, and then come back for 3 - 4 weeks for NRA / CMP remaining rifle matches? Thank you NRA / CMP for screwing the people that also support us and one the reasons we go to Perry (NRA and CMP matches).
On the other hand, with the CMP we're just shooting for the overall or some specific description (civilian, overall, etc); where as with the NRA matches (Canton / Perry) we're also competing within our classifications.
On the third hand, I'll sure miss not getting the Presidents 100 for the XX time in a row or trying to rack up some more .22 Distinguished points.
This was the point I was trying to make earlier, all matches will get better participation with a complete and coordinated schedule. And like John, my message will be:
"Dear NRA / CMP: I'll pick the matches with the most shooting over the shortest amount of time more often than not. Thank you. Cecil"
And I'm checking out again on this subject.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
I think NRA gets what they are given by CMP. Hard to compromise if you have no control of range dates and CMP has total control of all aspects of Perry civilian event shooting.
Bristol and Canton will have to adjust to NRA dates for 2700 attendance purposes. OR???
I hate to see the NRA National Matches move away from Perry for tradition reasons, but Cardinal is looking better every day.
The only downside I see to Cardinal is housing expense. No $13.00 beds for
those on tight budgets.

Being a vendor on vendor row at Camp Perry I have not been contacted by anyone with any date changes from June, I contacted many of the other vendors that attend pistol week and they too have not been contacted. Amateur hour.

From time to time I think about all my trips to Camp Perry and miss those days, after reading what is going on now I don't miss it a bit.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
If you shoot pistol and rifle the new dates aren't horrible. I had planned to shoot Canton, NRA and them CMP on the original dates and I set up my leave months ago to do that. I will now shoot the rifle 2400, a rifle leg, 22 pistol leg leg, P100 pistol and a Service pistol leg match. It's less pistol shooting than I wanted, but extra rifle time at Perry and I think that can benefit me.
I could actually make the trip with less leave than I have scheduled and that might allow me some flexibility at other tines.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
I'm certainly not urging anyone to boycott the CMP matches at Perry, but the NRA has always been the home of Conventional, and now Precision pistol.
If you can only pick one or two events, as others have pointed out, Canton, and NRA Nationals give you the most shots for the buck and they allow you to support the people who support us, all year round.
As I pointed out on another forum, the CMP does very little for us, at a very high price. In short, they run the CMP games a few times a year for massive entry fees, and short matches. Their LEG matches mostly piggy back on NRA matches, and in my opinion, considering the driving distances where I live, would not survive without them.
In fact they are dying out now, because it is almost impossible to round up six non distingished shooters who are willing to pay 12 to 20 bucks each plus ammo to be LEG donor. The high entry fees, and the mandatory qualification score put an end to good Samaritan rifle shooters wandering by to shoot a LEG match just for fun.
To top it off,
Not a single CMP games in within 800 miles of where I live.
I really hope they get their act together, and start operating their organization like it is there for the shooters, and not the other way around, but I'm not holding my breath.
In the meanwhile my loyalty is with the NRA match directors, and I will always pick an NRA match over a CMP match whenever there is a choice.
If Glenn Smith chooses to run his match at Bristol Indiana the first weekend in July, I will be there. If not, barring unforseen circumstances, I will be shooting in Asheville NC that weekend.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
No doubt, but the Bristol match is now in conflict with the South Carolina State Championhip in Orangeburg, and shooting that match (which has a complete short course on Friday) is a better use of my travel time out east, than shooting Bristol, and then hanging around for two weeks doing nothing until Canton, especially with a match in Asheville NC the first weekend in July.sixftunda wrote:Schaumannk wrote:

Lots of friends in both places, and I love Bristol, but this year the CMP has hosed the schedule for those of us who don't live within a few hours of Perry.

Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
Any vendors watching this thread?
My question is will vendors (Champion's Choice, Pardini, Crawford, Pilkguns, Springfield, etc.) be at Perry for Bullseye Nationals? I have heard rumors that high-power shooters spend more money (not sure I believe that:-)) so wondering if Vendor Row will be full with all these changes or not.
Also will air pistol range be open or will CMP have it closed for "maintenance" that week?

Yes Pilkguns is there. I bought an LP50 from Scott last summer at Perry.

I spoke with Larry Carter (Larry's Guns) last week. Unless something drastic changes he will not be on vendors row this year. And that also means I will not be on vendors row as well.
Re: New Pistol Dates at Camp Perry
Is there another match that all the vendors attend?
