Zero 185gr SWCHPs
Well I got bored tonight I guess and decided it weight each bullet before I load my match loads. Well after a bunch I gave it up as not necessary. I was looking at moveing anything out side of +/- 0.5 to yhe practice lot. Well they were all +/- 0.3 and really they all were 184.7 and .8 Dang good bullets. Yesterday I checked my loads with them using the LabRadar and a rest. Can't tell much at 20yds other then one ragged hole. Chrono said HV 704, LV 679, AV 693, ES 25, SD 8 with 3.8gr BE, WLP and assorted brass. Is that velocity a little low for LL? I have Federal once fired brass for the match loads A friend that works at the range knew a shooter that only uses new Federal Match ammo and keeps his brass, I paid $20 for 300 and was a happy camper. Mine clock at 690-710 fps from 4.8" CZ 97 barrel with the same load. Groups 2.5" at 50m from arm rest.

Sounds about right as we have several other variables that can effect velocity like seating depth and crimp. Looks to me like I am where I need to be. I will Ransom Rest them tomorrow on the LL and see what my LB will do with them. She will shoot 1.6" @ 50yds with Federal JHPs Match and I use those as my reference. After getting the RR settled in I fire 10 of those to see if all is well. DonBoris_La wrote:Mine clock at 690-710 fps from 4.8" CZ 97 barrel with the same load. Groups 2.5" at 50m from arm rest.

I think center to center is what you see listed most of the time and that is the way my computer program measures them. Knowing the bullet diameter it is not problen to do outside to outside. Due to how clean the holes are cut outside measurements might not be as accurate, but if they all fit in the X ring that good enough for me. Center to center is the accepted standard. Outside less bullet diameter.

I believe that's more for scoring targets than rating group size.

I have a cell phone target scoring app and that is how it works you have to give it the bullet dia. Donjames r chapman wrote:I believe that's more for scoring targets that rating group size.

Are the Federal cases from their .45 auto 185 gr SWC Match ammo any different from their other cases or any other manufacturer's cases?

Re: Zero 185gr SWCHPs
I don't think so but maybe someone else knows. I is just nice to know they are truely once fired as the once fired the range sells are sweep up off the range floor and you don't know how many times they been loaded. Some may be my own practice brass loaded dozens of times. If you weigh out about 15 or so of those cases & PM me the results, or post them I can probably verify that those cases are match cases or not. The total variation from the sample would also be helpful. That would be without primers if at all possible.

I shot up about 9 boxes about 3 yrs ago & documented the weights of the cases.
I was definitely surprised at the results. This was all Federal Gold Medal .45 auto 185 gr SWC.

Don:
Cases that are fired only once will have 3 black marks on the bottom surface of the case primer pocket & 3 areas where silver from nickel plated cases & brass for brass cases still showing the remaining area not covered by the 3 legs of the primer anvil. You will be able to tell when the expired primer is removed. When reloading it is possible to get the primer anvil legs in the same spot but not very likely. By the 3rd firing it is very unlikely that there is any of primer pocket left not showing the black marks

I think that it is something that everybody should be entitled to read & participate in.
I will post up the results of a sample of 50 cases out of 450 cases so you can compare the differences.
