New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
First topic message reminder :
I recently bought some "new" CCI .22. It's the new style box and looks the same as usual. I usually practice FIFO (First In First Out), but I had only bought 4 bricks so though I would just shoot that first. I only shot 100 rounds and of that, 5 from the first box and 3 from the second box fired differently. They poofed, rather than popped, and left a big blue cloud of smoke. I wasn't able to tell if it affected the shot or where it landed on my target.
Has anyone ever experienced this with CCI, or any other .22 cartridge? I'm wondering if it is light strike from my pistol or the ammo. I don't remember this happening with the other CCI, but I could try another pistol. I know this is a small sample, but 8 of 100 is disconcerting.
Any ideas or opinions?
Thanks in advance,
Joel

I am 5 bricks into a case of CCI SV paper box, the new box design, I purchased from Target Sports USA and have not had any issues at all. No excessive wax and the cases feel different. They are very clean and do not have the tacking feeling of a earlier lot.

I quit buying CCI because of the same problems. Most of mine were no fires. I have been shooting Aguila SV for practice now and after two cases I've had one bunny fart. At $170 a case that's not bad. Lets face it, CCI and Aguila is cheap ammo. You get what you pay for. At matches I shoot Wolf, SK, ELEY, ect. If anything else, I know it will go bang. I don't need the additional worry.

The note that I got from them regarding the batch I sent back was that while they are within spec, they are at the bottom of the velocity range that they deem acceptable.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I chrono’d the new box against the old stuff today. Pistol is a 6 inch Pardini and speed was taken 1 foot from Muzzle with Radar.
Old was 978 with a high to low spread of 13
New was 957 with a high to low spread of 24
I am happy to admit that the new stuff grouped as good if not slightly better than the old stuff off of sandbags at 50 yards! Held just over X ring multiple times! I am going again tomorrow and will post pics

I just got the latest email from Target Sports and CCI SV is now $259.00 per case...
It had been about $235.00 until now.

How did you get the free shipping at Brownell? I did get a 10% off banner ad today which almost covers shipping and tax
I need .30 carbine and Ammo Empire has PPU cheap so will at least try them for it.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I'm four bricks into a case of that CCI with the stripe.
the excess wax is a problem and I will not order again.
I switched from Agila SV (the $179/case at Target Sports) because the Agila was very dirty and left a lot of waxy
residue on the bolt face and breech face of my Pardini.
I had hoped the CCI would be much cleaner. It wasn't.
I have had no function issues with either ammo and have shot over 290 with each at 50FT with the shots called
exactly to point of impact.
I cheap when purchasing rimfire ammo because even shooting high price RWS I find no increase in scores.
I think I will try some Gecco next.
I'm not a fan of the oily slime they have on their ammo but will bring some wipes to clean my hands after loading.
several shooters on the team shoot Gecco with no complaints.

I'm finishing up my case of Geco, 2 bricks left and just bought a case of CCI. Former shoots great but tired of having to clean the bolt in my ruger pistols and rifles every 100-150 rounds even after wiping the grease off. Just using a rag, maybe should try some alcohol

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Just as a follow up. I had the same issue with CCI standard as you see in the posts above. I called their customer service number and left a message. Got a call back within a few hours. They wanted to know the lot number and made arrangements to have all of the ammo, (4 bricks) picked up by UPS and returned to their facility for testing and replacement.
Staff was professional and instructions sent by email were easy to follow.
I am sure they are getting lots of these calls.
My failure rate for two 50 round boxes was 7% (lot number J12AA08).
Most were failure to eject, one stove pipe. When I switched to older stock, it worked with no issues for 200 rounds.
Now to see what they find when they test.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
My MG-2 had been perfect so when it started having issues again, I was very confounded. Finally, I looked at the box of CCI and sure enough, it was the same bad lot. Decided to go through all my CCI and I found over a case of it. I contact CCI again and they were great about it and I am just awaiting my refund. The other CCI from different lots are fine, but this lot was at the bottom of the velocity spec.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I'm happy to report I received two cases from Brownells that are the new style paper box, same lot # for both cases and no problems after function testing 100 rounds in my Pardini SP and 100 rounds in my Marvel Unit 1 conversion.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
I have about 2 cases worth of bricks of CCI SV paper box on the shelf. Bought them a few at a time at 25-30 $$ per brick. Did this over several months at places like Dick's some years ago. More than one box in different lot bricks has weak rounds. Sometimes half the box fires with a Pffft rather than a bang. 6-8 inches low at 25y. The case usually still in the chamber.
CCI said send some in to inspect. They said nothing wrong.
CCI SV is now CCI FU. (Fires Unsatisfactorily

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
CCI sent me replacement ammo for the ammo I had with excess lubricant. Yesterday, while practicing, from a new box of CCI 22 SV LR, one round didn't want to drop out of the plastic piece that holds the rounds in place.
Alan Aronstein had already told me to wipe off all my CCI before shooting it, to clean the lube. I did that the way I've been doing for the past few days, and sure enough, the round created a FTL. I threw it away. Good to know that Alan's advice to wipe off the rounds is mostly working. Moat of the ammo had no issues.
Jack H, how are the new boxes different from the old? Is it easy to tell? If CCI has changed something in the past three or four months, I'm unaware of it, as I'm using the replacement ammo from CCI.
