New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
First topic message reminder :
I recently bought some "new" CCI .22. It's the new style box and looks the same as usual. I usually practice FIFO (First In First Out), but I had only bought 4 bricks so though I would just shoot that first. I only shot 100 rounds and of that, 5 from the first box and 3 from the second box fired differently. They poofed, rather than popped, and left a big blue cloud of smoke. I wasn't able to tell if it affected the shot or where it landed on my target.
Has anyone ever experienced this with CCI, or any other .22 cartridge? I'm wondering if it is light strike from my pistol or the ammo. I don't remember this happening with the other CCI, but I could try another pistol. I know this is a small sample, but 8 of 100 is disconcerting.
Any ideas or opinions?
Thanks in advance,
Joel

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Instead of desired payment, CCI sent "replacement" for the CCI SV 22LR that acted under-powered. No lot numbers on the boxes of 50. Marked as "35EU" on case and boxes have meters per second in addition to fps - still red-band with "Target." CCi said that the rounds that did not work provided nearly expected velocity, but ejection issues in pistol. What I found too. It is possible that cases were a speck too fat. Fired an insufficient number of rounds of the 35EU and found that the first few rounds in a magazine ejected, but did not have enough momentum to cock nor to have the slide move back far enough to strip the next round from magazine. After the first few, functioned OK. Clearly, this was an insufficient test - more testing when warmer. -

There should be a lot number on the box or brick. Hold the box at an angle and looked for an embossed lot number on the bottom.

Comms from CCI reference returned ammo today:
'Your ammunition was received in our office and was tested for pressure and velocity and tested right at the bottom of our specification. We then had it tested in a Ruger Mark III and did experience some failures in the same nature that you did so we are having your 6600 rounds replaced with 7000 rounds and this will be on its way to you in the next couple of business days."
Thanks,
Cody B./Technical Service Rep.

I had a brick that didn't function in my Marvel so I sent it back to CCI.
Just got this message fron CCI:
" I have your ammunition back from testing. They had some issues during testing and I’ll get your ammunition replaced."
They have been very nice to deal with.

For those who maybe looking for some CCI SV, Champion's Choice has them in stock @ $2.50 per box and they have over 170 cases. The ammo does not have the Red Banner Target on the individual boxes and my inspection has not found any sign of excess wax. Lot No. D29YA12 was delivered to me today.

^^^^ If you buy it by the case it is $228 plus shipping. Not a bad price for the current times.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
Finally the temperature went just above 70 F and had time to evaluate one pistol and two SV 22LR lots. Pistol: Mk IV, 22/45, Lite with Matchdot - backup pistol. Ammo: Aquila Pistol Match and CCI SV 35EU direct from factory (Lot starting with M).
With a very clean pistol, both rounds performed and shot to point of aim. After about 30 or so rounds (alternating between the two types) found that the Aquila would occasionally have FTE or FT-cock. Ejected cases of the Aquila did not fly as far as the ejected cases of the 35EU. Both rounds hit 50 yard gong. Selecting the most smooth magazine, only the 35EU hit 50 yard gong every time without any issues. As we all know, results with one 22 pistol do not necessarily tract to another pistol! . . . except for the CCI SV that I sent back - it had bad issues in all of a series of 22 pistols. (note that I am sure that - for once - temperature did not influence the results) Mac

I just received a case of the new CCI SV from Target Sports and it seems to run just fine in my Pardini.

Re: New SV CCI .22 (35 in Paper Box) Issues
In the last 2 months I have received cases of the following Lots from Target USA. D13AA06, D13AA07, M10AA04, and B13B206.
What does these wide ranging LOT numbers tell you, other than Target USA sells a lot of SV.?

Without knowing the coding it really doesn’t tell you much.

From another form from some time ago,,...

Ever wonder when your Speer/CCI product was manufactured? Since 1995, on center-fire ammo, rimfire ammo, bullets, and primers the manufacture date is encoded in the first four places of the lot number, which is printed on or impressed into the box or packaging. The format is L##L where L is a letter and # is a number. Letters and/or numbers following these I haven’t figured out yet. The first letter is the month, January through December – A through M, respectively, skipping I, which looks like a 1/one. The numbers are 01 through 31 for the numerical date; single digit dates get a leading zero. The second letter is the year, 1995 through 2008 – A through P, respectively, skipping I and O (I looks like a 1/one, O looks like a 0/zero). Therefore, my Blazer 9mm Luger ammo lot number A09P1 was made on January 9th, 2008. My Speer 9mm Luger Gold Dot ammo lot number C12J33 was made on March 12th, 2003. My CCI Large Pistol primers lot number H14M was made on August 14, 2006. And my Independence-brand 9mm Luger ammo lot number C12N3 was made by Speer/CCI on March 12th, 2007. My Blazer rimfire ammo lot L08NQ3 was made on November 8th, 2007.
Check out the lot numbers in Speer’s 2002 ammunition recall notice and you’ll see the pattern.
